How To: Turn an Empty Alcohol Bottle Into a Hand Sanitizer Dispenser

Jack Daniels hand sanitizer in a bottle

My Crafty Senses have been tingling again, I have been in such a craft mood lately. I want to recycle everything I see and make it into something else. Why throw something away when you can turn it into something neat. Well that is what happened when I saw an empty alcohol bottle in my house. (No I am not a big drinker) And I thought to myself what can I do with this. I remembered seeing people turning alcohol bottles into soap dispensers. I’ve always thought it was pretty cool idea. I didn’t like the idea for my kitchen or bathroom. Lucky for me we have a bar table or I should say my boyfriend has a “bar area” in our house so it would go perfectly there.  I then thought. “Why would I have soap in the living room?” So hand sanitizer made the perfect option. So I turned a Jack Daniels bottle into a hand sanitizer bottle. Let’s just say he was happy to have a little addition to his “bar area”

You will need the following items:

  • A clean and empty Alcohol Bottle (Jack Daniels Works the best)
  • A large Bottle of Hand Sanitizer
  • Paint (Any Color you wish)
  • Paint brush or spray paint (whichever you prefer)
  • Newspaper or paint towels to keep from getting paint everywhere.

I like to save money so I try to get low cost materials. I will let you know where you can go to find these materials.

You will need to gently wash out the alcohol bottle making sure all alcohol is out of the bottle. Be careful that you don’t get the outside of the bottle wet. Any alcohol bottle will work, but I find that Jack Daniels bottles work better. I tried this project with another brand bottle and the pump cap would not screw on.

After I washed it out I carefully poured the hand sanitizer from its bottle into the alcohol bottle.  I apologize I didn't get the size bottle I used. But I had a large bottle of hand sanitizer (maybe 30 fl oz.) and it filled the entire bottle.

Here is the my new hand sanitizer.

Here is the my new hand sanitizer.

I took the pump off the hand sanitizer and I painted it black (gold would of looked nice too) I used a can of Black Rust-Oleum paint. The paint dries faster, so it works great with painting larger items. I grabbed it from Wal-Mart for a few bucks. It takes about 10 minutes to dry.

I then placed the pump on the alcohol bottle for the Jack Daniels Bottle it screwed right on. Now it’s sitting in our bar area.

I just wanted to add because my friend brought it to my attention, you may want to warn people that its hand sanitizer. Don’t want anyone for whatever reason to try and drink it thinking it’s a different type of drink.

I hope you enjoyed this short tutorial and good luck on making your own. Keep an eye out for my future crafts and blogs/tutorials on.
