The RAW, The BAD, & The UGLY Week of 12/8/13
The Right, The Wrong, & The Downright Awful from Monday Night RAW
THE RAW: JOHN CENA
Despite how many people feel about John Cena, the one thing you cannot deny is that he has superb mic skills. Cena’s ability to feed off the crowd last night, and even using Daniel Bryan to his benefit, was magical. But the most intriguing thing to me with Cena's spot is that he didn't hold any punches. Cena’s promo came off as a “worked shoot,” a shoot is when a wrestler is going completely off script usually done out of character, whereas a “worked shoot” the wrestler brings up “real world” incidents but the company and his target knows what is going to be said. Cena letting everyone know that not only does Orton do dumb shit in the ring he does dumb shit outside the ring and the only reason why he hasn't been fired is because The Authority loves him. Bravo Cena. Bravo. Taking the time to acknowledge Bryan, Ziggler, and CM Punk helped Cena gain a little more respect from me because two of those 3 I truly believe the WWE has no respect for despite how much the fans love them.
THE BAD: RANDY ORTON
Just typing his name alone should be enough. Orton's spot was just flat out boring. If I didn't have to watch it for this article I wouldn't have done it. As I watch him speak on the mic I just said to myself this is Ultimate Warrioresque. It wasn't that bad he did have a little moment when acknowledged some of the WWE greats reminiscent of his “Legend Killer” gimmick. But after those five entertaining seconds Orton flatlined. The crowd started “boring” chants and “you suck” gaining Orton bad heat. Orton does possess some mic skills, but he would had greatly benefited from being “Heyman Guy.”
THE UGLY: THE LAST SEGMENT OF RAW
During the final segment on Raw, the WWE had past World & WWE Champions in the ring. As such, Daniel Bryan was standing in the ring and receiving the loudest pop of the night. Sure Bryan was in his home state, but for nearly a year he’s gotten the loudest reactions of the night no matter the venue or where he wrestles on the card. Triple H couldn’t continue his promo, at times finding it difficult for him to start speaking. I don't know how long Creative can choose to ignore how over Daniel Bryan is.
Normally the scuffle at the end would had been in the Raw section, but Triple H being the one hitting the pedigree on Orton was just stupid. You cannot have semi retired wrestlers taking down not only your superstar, but the WWE champion. I understand that Vince would get the upperhand on Stone Cold during the Attitude Era, but Vince never looked physically dominate against Austin. I would have like it if Triple H were going to attack Orton and Cena stops him then hit Orton with the AA. Then the show goes off with Cena's music and not Triple H's. I felt like it was more about Triple H and not about unifying the titles.
BONUS UGLY: STEPHANIE MCMAHON
I can point out many things that were just flat out ugly on RAW. Stephanie presenting her hubby as the greatest WWE Superstar. Now Triple H was a great performer, but better than HBK, Bret the Hitman Hart or even Mick Foley. Hopefully this was Stephanie’s attempt at getting some heel heat.
