Grow Up & Get It Together

Grow Up & Get It Together

As a child all we really had to worry about was school, grades, chores, extracurricular activities, and, well, just being a kid. Of course, as we grew older we wanted to hurry up and grow up.  We didn’t want to have to listen to our parents or follow their rules. We wanted to be able to drive, so we could go wherever whenever. We wanted to be able to legally drink and get into night clubs and bars. We just wanted freedom and to be our own person.

Well as the years went on and we became adults we now see that this so called “adult life” wasn’t everything we thought it would be. We didn’t realize exactly how much responsibilities adults have. To be able to get a car to go wherever we want we had to have decent credit and a job and money to pay for the car and the gas. You have to pay to get into some clubs and then pay for drinks. No matter where you live you have someone telling you what you can or cannot do unless you own your own home. You have bills to pay and if they aren’t paid then your utilities or prized possessions will be cut off or taken away.  But, nonetheless, in order to do any of the things you wanted so eagerly to hurry up adulthood and enjoy requires having a job. (Well, unless you inherited a whole bunch of money or have a rich husband/wife - which for most of us that’s not happening.) So as an adult most of us have a 4-5 day a week job or career to survive in this world.

Now that I am an adult, as well as a mother of three kids, I understand all the responsibilities of being an adult. I have to pay rent, car note, car insurance, gas for my car, utilities, phone bill, daycare, etc…..  So with that being said, I dish out a ton of money monthly just to survive. What I can’t seem to wrap my head around is the simple fact that a lot of adults don’t want to work. How is it that you need money to survive in this world, but you do not want to go to work? Or, you get a job and work a week or two, start calling off, showing up late, or just never return. All so you can start acting like a child again.

This day in age it is so hard to get a job. It’s not like back in the day where everyone was hiring and you can walk in somewhere and get hired on the spot. Jobs are really starting to do background checks, credit checks, checking references and schools to make sure you graduated like you claim. Your chances of getting hired at a job are slim to none. So why are so many people taking a chance on having nothing because they are: 1) too lazy to get a job and keep it OR 2) they would rather party like a teenager act like they are living a college life.

People really need to wake up. Nothing in this life is free. You have to work for everything you want. No one is going to hand everything to you while they slave away. Start acting your age, go to work, and keep a job because before you know it you might be one of those homeless people out on the street asking people for money living on a park bench or under a cardboard box. Just wishing you had a job, a house, a car. Get it together, America. Once again, just my thoughts…..
