Love & Hip Hop: New York Season 8 Premiere Recap: Unity

New Faces, Same Drama...

Remy Ma may be last in the opening credits, but it’s starting to look like she is being positioned as the face of Love & Hip Hop: New York. From the opening shot with Remy overlooking the city from a helicopter, not so subtly one-upping Hazel E’s chopper entrance, Remy the queen looks down on her queendom before arriving at a networking party she threw to bring her friends, aka subjects together.

Throughout the episode, Remy states she is on a quest for unity. Her Summer Jam set with female hip-hop legends and her breaking her nemesis Nicki Minaj's streak at the 2017 BET Awards seem to be just the beginning of her hero's journey. The only thing stopping her is her husband Papoose's quest to try to have another child.  Back to back seasons with the same storyline isn’t anything new to LHH, but this could be dangerous if the outcome is the same.

Remember season two of LHHNY when it was Team Chrissy vs Team Yandy? After that season Team Yandy won the championship, after eliminating Team Chrissy from the show altogether.  Well, it’s looking like Team Chrissy is making a comeback. Not in a literal sense, Chrissy wouldn't be caught dead on LHHNY, but figuratively speaking Team Chrissy is saying "I told you so!"

Yandy has been on a downward spiral the past few seasons. But a fake marriage, and real baby mama drama aside, Yandy can turn this around, but she's going to need more than Lil Fizz's Good Lotion to do it. Dealing with Mendecees' jealousy behind bars and his mom's Judy prying eyes, has Yandy wishing for the days of Samantha and Erika recording phone calls.

New Comers

Bad Girl Club alum, Dream Doll was noticeably quiet when Safaree talked his boredom of plastic women.

Dear Mona, forget the love triangle between Anais, Rich, and her father-husband Ruben. Just give fans an origin story of this May-December love affair.

Brittney Taylor aka Bri and her beef with Miss "Throw Dem Shoes" Bianca isn’t anything new to the LHH franchise or reality tv for that matter. But Bri's living situation with an aging sick grandmother and strained relationship with her addict of a mother would be different for LHH.

Questions

Has anyone ever curved their jailed significant other? The only thing more shocking than Yandy telling Mendecees she'll call him back was her shocked reaction to JuJu's and Remy's confusion.

Will Rich Dollaz type 2 diabetes ever come up again? Sure Rich is a creep and maybe the Creep Squad captain, but diabetes is a hell of a punishment for a lifetime of creepish ways. Hopefully, LHHNY will treat this with the same seriousness as suicide, domestic violence, and other serious issues that have come up throughout the franchise's history.

Can Safaree's family get a spinoff? This may be a bit premature but Safaree's family is the best. Just have an episode where his mom and sisters play a word association game with pictures of women Safaree dated.

How many people went to check out New York rapper Grafh's music after last night episode?
