Tahiry's Every Move was a Calculated Step

A Second Chance at a First Love

I would by no means claim to be a die hard Joe Budden fan. I remember him coming up in the mixtape game in the early part of this century. I remember his clever punchlines and timely references, his fearlessness to expose his personal life no matter how good, bad, or embarrassing it may be.

Four years ago I happened to come across his youtube channel Chea201. It was filled with small clips of Joe just living his life. In one video he was shopping for a new hat, or watching fellow rapper Fabolous get hair cut, but from time to time Joe would upload a video with his then girlfriend Tahiry.

The Dominican beauty, standing at just 5’2, had a spitfire personality that could only be overshadowed by her voluptuous backside. The videos were little glimpses of their relationship. Even though the videos were short, it was enough to see that these two were in love and had great chemistry in front of the camera.

When these two called it quits at the five year mark of their relationship, I admit was on some level shocked. Not the same level of shock like when D'wayne and Whitley broke off their engagement or when Martin and Gina relationship ended over a piece of art. In both cases those television couples got back together. Sure those had to do with the way the show was scripted, but no one really believes reality television isn't scripted.

From the premiere episode of #LHHNY there were M. Night Shyamalan type signs that these two still had feelings for each. From their encounter at the restaurant where Tahiry blew up at Joe, at Joe’s birthday when Tahiry and Joe’s friend Raqi Thunda got into it over a game of "Truth or Truth," something Joe thought was clever. When Joe admitted to his mother that he relapsed, Tahiry was at his door with a take home drug test. And after Joe passed  said test, Tahiry made him dinner to keep up her part of the agreement the two had made.

The climax of their story happened when Tahiry made a song referencing her feelings for Joe. After listening to the song Joe volunteered, but quickly reneged when Kaylin said she wouldn't be comfortable with this arrangement.

Tahiry never seem to respect Kaylin, seeing her more as a seat filler, than an actually attendee in Joe Budden's life. The way she dressed at Joe's birthday party or the way she talked to Kaylin stating that if Kaylin was taking care of business Joe wouldn't have to come to her, implied a lack of respect for the Joe and Kaylin's relationship.

All of Tahiry's slight jabs landed successfully, because Joe fell hook line and sinker. He apologized for all the wrong he done throughout the season, and decided to buy a Tahiry (and himself) a ticket to the Dominican Republic so she could see her father.

Kaylin is too passive aggressive, which can be detrimental when fighting for the one you love. She stated she didn't want to show jealousy because that's what ruined her last relationship. Instead she suggested Joe buy Tahiry a gift after Joe explains that he and Tahiry had a bad meeting. When Joe tells Kaylin his feelings for Tahiry are out of his control, Kaylin doesn't bat an eye. And when Joe told Kaylin he would be accompanying his ex girlfriend to the Dominican Republic, Kaylin was as quiet as a church mouse.

After the trip, Joe broke up with Kaylin (off camera).  And took Tahiry on what look to be a romantic rendezvous. The two seemed to pick up where they left off, with Tahiry acknowledging the growth both of them have shown during their years apart.

In the first part of the reunion, its revealed that Joe and Kaylin are still sleeping together. Tahiry was visibly upset with Joe telling him don't even knock on my door. During the second part, Consequence sucker punched Joe Budden from behind and before Consequence could land another punch, Tahiry popped him quick! Consequence even acknowledged it, saying she got him good. Tahiry reflexes, or her love for Joe just kicked in.

I know that there are people believe that Tahiry was wrong for even talking to Joe when he was involved with someone else. I don’t think Tahiry intended to fall for Joe or plotted to take him from Kaylin like some cheesy soap opera. But even if that was her intent, who cares. If you are in love with the person who you feel is your soul mate, then by all means do whatever it takes to get that person back. Why leave that up to fate, when you can control your own destiny?
